Bouchra Jarrar replacing Alber Elbaz as Artistic Director in Lanvin.

As was rumored, Lanvin has appointed Bouchra Jarrar as its new artistic director. Jarrar, who starts work on Monday, will oversee women’s wear, and her first collection will be spring/summer 2017. She replaces Alber Elbaz, former creative director for both menswear and women’s wear, who helmed Lanvin for 14 years.

Jarrar launched her namesake line in 2010 and joined the couture calendar three years later. Her résumé also includes stints as design studio head for Balenciaga and head of couture for Christian Lacroix. While not a household name, Jarrar has quietly built a loyal following and amassed critical acclaim for her masterful tailoring and elegant, easy sportswear. The general industry reaction to the news of Jarrar’s appointment as it ripples through social media is that she is a great fit for the brand and someone whose talent deserves the spotlight afforded by a major maison.

“It is a huge honour to continue promoting the Lanvin style, with designs created in the company’s ateliers by teams who possess extraordinary expertise,” Jarrar said in a statement. “Joining Lanvin meets a desire to expend my creation to wider fields of expression. It is my intention to bring to Lanvin the harmony and consistency of a fashion designed for women, a fashion of our time.”
